“Johnny” is a really simple song that becomes more and more powerful by never losing its momentum throughout its own shifting dynamics. It’s all about parts and volume, with the constant of Chrisy Hurn’s clear, sublimely melodic vocals. The song will have you bobbing along in no time, and you’ll be singing “it’s a really bad time right now” for the rest of your day. The whole thing is really beautiful in a melancholic sort of way. But what makes it special is that Basement Revolver play it as loud as they possibly can. “Johnny” is an amazing debut single, and it makes me excited for the band’s first EP, set for release this July.
