Toui Manikhouth, a talented songwriter from small town Ontario, has managed to channel an enormous amount of emotion into his work. His double EP, This Service / The Fire and Disguise, is the best kind of acoustic folk: quiet, but triumphant. The songs are laced with shimmery pop hooks and thin vocals reminiscent of Elliott Smith. But what really sets Manikhouth apart is the purity in his voice, which makes his songs sound like they’re coming straight from his soul. Well worth the short listen.
