Oscar is one of the most compelling artists to come out of London recently. His 2015 EP revealed him to be a songwriter with considerable talent and charm. Now, his debut album, Cut and Paste, showcases his confidence in crafting pleasingly distorted sonic landscapes, while never losing the massive hooks and melodies we’ve come to expect from him.
The album brims with Oscar’s quirky sense of cool, heard best on “Sometimes” and “Breaking My Phone.” But his sweet side also comes through on songs like “Fifteen.” Regardless of mood, the key here is classic pop song structures and soaring choruses, combined with fresh sounds and Oscar’s solidly genuine vocals. An adventurous and exciting debut.
