BRONCHO’s latest LP, Double Vanity, is an absolute revelation in fuzzy, melodic rock. It takes repeated listens to even be able to start sifting through the countless layers of sound, which immediately bring to mind some of the best shoegaze. But BRONCHO is still a rock band, a fact made clear by songs like “Senora Borealis” and “New Karma.” Still, they seem much more concerned with beauty on this record than sounding particularly heavy. They’re loud, but that’s different. The songs and melodies themselves are simple, but the band adds a heap of depth with sheer volume. It’s a trick that’s been done many, many times before, but the members of BRONCHO are particularly good at doing it in their own way.
